چکیده

Introduction: Presolar graphite was isolated from the Murchison meteorite [1] only 3 years after the discovery of presolar SiC [2]. Yet it has not been studied as extensively as SiC. One of the reasons is that trace element concentrations in graphite grains are, in general, not high enough to perform isotopic analysis with sufficient precision. A new type of ion microprobe, the NanoSIMS, has recently been installed at Washington University in St. Louis. Its high sensitivity at highmass resolution and its multi-detection capability [3] make it possible to measure isotopic ratios of trace elements with unprecedented precision. We have previously reported C, N, O, and Si isotopic ratios of graphite from the Murchison KFA1 separate (2.052.10g/cm) [4]. We extended our studies to Mg-Al, K, Ca, and Ti in the same KFA1 graphite grains that we had previously analyzed in order to obtain correlated isotopic ratios.

Presolar Graphite from the Murchison Meteorite: Noble Gases Revisited

Introduction: Ne-E(L) is one of the anomalous noble gas components that ultimately led to the discovery of presolar grains in meteorites. The component is extremely enriched in 22 Ne and this fact prompted the idea that the 22 Ne is from the decay of 22 Na [1]. The carrier of Ne-E(L) is presolar graphite [2], which has been extracted from Murchison [3] and Orgueil [4]. There are four graphite-r...

A Tofsims Study of Pristine Presolar

Introduction: All presolar graphite grains analyzed to date were extracted from their host meteorite using acid dissolution techniques [1-3]. However, recent studies have suggested that the use of harsh acids may significantly alter the outer surface of presolar SiC grains extracted in this way [4], and similarly may also affect graphite grains. We have previously described a technique for " ge...

A First Look at Graphite Grains from Orgueil: Morphology, Carbon, Nitrogen and Neon Isotopic Compositions of Individual, Chemically Separated Grains

Presolar graphite in Murchison has been extensively studied [1, 2, 3]. It is characterized by a unique Ne isotopic composition, known as the Ne-E(L) component. According to studies by Huss and Lewis [4], the concentration of Ne-E(L) in Orgueil is about one order of magnitude higher than in Murchison, when normalized to the matrix. This could be due to a higher presolar graphite abundance in Org...

Graphite grains in supernova ejecta – Insights from a noble gas study of 91 individual KFC1 presolar graphite grains from the Murchison meteorite

We have measured helium and neon concentrations, elemental and isotopic ratios of 91 individual presolar graphite grains from the KFC1 density separate of the Murchison meteorite. Eleven grains contain measurable amounts of either He, Ne, Ne or Ne, or a combination thereof. We report the first detection of Ne from an individual presolar graphite grain and the first detection of He and Ne in ind...

Presolar Graphite from the Murchison Meteorite: Imprint of Nucleosynthesis and Grain Formation

Presolar graphite is the carrier of Ne-E(L) and most 22 Ne in Ne-E(L) had long been attributed to radiogenic decay of 22 Na from novae. Of presolar graphite grains with a range of density (1.6-2.2g/cm 3 ), low-density graphite grains extracted from the Murchison meteorite are characterized by 18 O excesses and Si isotopic anomalies and are believed to have formed in supernova ejecta. From noble...
